Bering Yachts closed out the month of April with a bang. It launched hull number one in its B145 series of explorer yachts, Heeus, at its headquarters in Turkey. Among the owners’ special requests: construction and engineering for visiting some of the farthest-flung and coldest places possible.
The shipyard revealed the 145 in 2020 as its biggest explorer yacht to date. She’s quite voluminous for her LOA of 145 feet (44.2 meters), 499 gross tons. The steel hull has an ice belt to fulfill the owners’ desire to visit some extreme destinations. Further to allow reaching them, along with much warmer distant shores, Heeus carries 25,265 gallons (95,600 liters) of fuel. That’s nearly double what some similar-size explorer-oriented megayachts have. That capacity, along with a hybrid propulsion system, should allow Heeus to cover upwards of 5,000 nautical miles.
When cruising or at the owners’ chosen destination, the propulsion system offers flexibility. For instance, electric-only mode is handy for anchoring and docking. Under just the 1,200-hp Caterpillar diesels, the yacht should see a top speed of 15 knots and cruise speed of 12 knots. Overall, variable-speed gensets recharge the batteries, and electric motors drive the props.

With design and engineering from Bering’s in-house departments, Heeus has accommodations for 12 passengers. The master sits forward on the main deck, additionally benefitting from tremendous views. Those come thanks to 102-square-foot (9.5-square-meter) windows. Not surprisingly, the owners have a few entertaining areas, including a second dining table in the sky lounge, along with a bar and hot tub on the flying bridge. The three-deck megayacht dedicates sizable square footage to the saloon and main dining area, too, on the main deck. And, of course, the owners requested waterside relaxation space, in the beach club. Due to a dedicated 269-square-foot (25-square-foot) tender garage, it’s exclusively for enjoyment.
Heeus will begin cruising in a few weeks with her 10-person crew. Alexei Mikhailov, Bering Yachts’ founder, declares, “This will be the beginning of a new chapter for the Bering Yachts company.”
In related news, the builder has sold two further new builds, a B80 and a B125. Both are for European clients.
