What started out as a custom tender for the owner of a 207-foot (63-meter) expedition yacht is now a semi-custom model. The Linx 30 can go from being a limo tender to a watersports platform and to a beachable boat all in one day.
The boat comes from an all-Spanish team, namely BYD Group (formerly Barcelona Yacht Design Group) and BMComposites. Wanting a “broad, open boat with good stability,” the above-mentioned owner commissioned BYD Group to design a craft for 10 people. Since multiple activities were on the agenda, flexible design was a must. Simultaneously, the tender needed to be lightweight and fit in a tender garage. BMComposites took on construction, using carbon fiber composite. As a new semi-custom series, the 31-footer (9.48-meter) Linx 30 still adheres to all of these.
But, she offers more, too. For example, the build and design incorporate a fixed hydrofoil between the hulls. This reduces drag and, according to BYD Group, boosts speed up to 40 percent more than you’d get with the same 250-hp Yanmar diesels and fuel consumption on same-size traditional tenders. The Linx 30 also has waterjets and can reportedly top out upwards of 40 knots, too. Additionally, with 116 gallons (430 liters) of fuel, the tender covers a lot of territory. In fact, the design studio says she can go 130 nautical miles at a 25-knot cruising speed.
That allows you and your guests more than enough time to seek secluded beaches and have the crew pull right up onto them for you to disembark. Conveniently, the Linx 30 has a landing ramp. Further conveniently for those of you who might spend all day onboard, BYD Group includes a discrete marine toilet.
Whatever activities you ultimately have in mind, the Linx 30 will fit in your tender garage. It’s because the hardtop and windscreen both fold down. Your crew additionally will appreciate integrated lifting points. So, too, will they appreciate the twin Yanmars being diesels, instead of gasoline engines, so that you don’t need to carry additional fuel.
Since the Linx 30 is semi-custom, you can make a variety of special requests. Tailor the layout, for instance, or add special aesthetic finishes. You can even request more traditional propulsion without waterjets, in either outboard or stern-drive configurations.
