The company that created the wildly popular Mirage Eclipse Pedal Board is back with two new Mirage Passport pedal kayaks to add to your watertoy garage.
The Mirage Passport 10.5 R (above) and 12.0 R (below) are the latest additions to Hobie’s 2022 offerings. Each employs the company’s MirageDrive, which uses riders’ foot power to propel the kayak through the water. Simple to use, the MirageDrive also currently comes standard with Kick Up Fins. These automatically retract and protect the drives if you encounter a rock or other underwater obstacle. Once you’re clear, the fins automatically redeploy.
The reason why you’d choose one Mirage Passport model over the other may come down to your preferred activities. The 10’5” (3.2-meter) Mirage Passport 10.5 R, for instance, is a cruising kayak. It comes with an aluminum, two-piece paddle, and—for superyachts with several kayaking enthusiasts—stacks easily. You’ll appreciate that the seat is breathable, and that bow and stern bungee stowage is standard, too. Guests who like exploring tight waterways or maneuvering around obstacles will appreciate the twist-and-stow rudder and user-friendly steering.
The 12-foot (3.6-meter) Mirage Passport 12 R, meanwhile, is a fishing kayak, though it does come with a paddle, too. You can mount a fishfinder if you’re an avid angler, plus use the padded standing platform to better spot your targets. Two rod holders are standard, too, as are under-seat and gunwale tackle stowage. Furthermore, you can opt for a bimini shade or a sail kit for more time on and more ways to enjoy the water. While the 10.5 R also comes with rod holders, this larger kayak is fully focused on the sport.
The kayaks come in a choice of Seagrass Green and Slate Blue. MSRP is $1,649 for the 10.5 R and $1,869 for the 12.0 R. Both should be in dealerships to see later this month, for delivery starting in August.
