Charter yachts are available in extraordinary destinations like French Polynesia and Indonesia. But, imagine joining a superyacht charter in those or even more remote areas, knowing she won’t return to the Med for five years. The 212-foot (64.5-meter) sailing yacht Atlantic is setting out on this type of voyage around the world early next year. Charter guests can join the adventures along the way.

This circumnavigation is especially fitting for a yacht celebrating a sailing legend. Atlantic, a 2010 delivery, is a meticulous re-creation of a renown schooner from 1903 of the same name. That Atlantic set a transatlantic record during the 1905 Kaiser’s Cup race. In fact, she covered the 3,000 nautical miles from Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to the Lizard peninsula in England in 12 days, 4 hours. The modern-day sailing superyacht preserves the long hull, low profile, and three-masted rig characterizing her.

The 12-person crew intends to put her 18,837-square-foot (1,750-square-meter) sail plan to thorough use—and guests can join in sail handling, too. Following a transatlantic crossing and passing through the Panama Canal, the sailing yacht Atlantic will cruise throughout the Pacific. Among the destinations she should visit are the Fakarava Atoll in French Polynesia and northwestern Australia’s Kimberley region. Raja Ampat in Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, and Madagascar are as well. The yacht will make her way back to the Mediterranean come 2031.

Unlike many yacht charters that chase the traditional seasonal destinations, Atlantic’s itinerary is remaining purposely flexible. This permits taking winds and weather into account for route planning. It simultaneously allows time to explore these atypical cruising grounds. Up to 12 guests can enjoy a week’s charter during the different “chapters,” as the management team calls the voyage legs.

As different as the destinations may be, the onboard experience will be familiar to experienced charter guests. The six staterooms, saloon, and other rooms envelop everyone in classically nautical décor, from warm, rich mahogany to crisp-white deckheads. Days can be spent swimming, snorkeling diving, waterskiing, paddleboarding, and more on the water, plus cycling on land. Of course, the Atlantic team will arrange private experiences on request. Hikes with naturalists, for instance, or enjoy cultural and wellness experiences. Evenings can wrap up with champagne at sunset, and all meals will highlight locally sourced ingredients.

Charter rates start at €150,000 (about $170,000 at press time).
