Repeat business is the best business, as the saying goes. Hodgdon Tenders is reaping the rewards of a strong relationship with one particular owner. It’s building three 40-foot (12.2-meter) tenders for that same customer, who has another superyacht under construction in northern Europe.
Hodgdon Tenders is the longstanding superyacht-tender division of Maine-based Hodgdon Yachts. Hodgdon Yachts dates back to 1816, with its roots in the town of East Boothbay. The family of founder Caleb Hodgdon still runs the yard today, through the fifth and sixth generation of Hodgdons. The tenders division offers several styles, all with naval architecture and styling by Michael Peters Yacht Design and engineering in house. For instance, it has Limousine, Open, and Beachlander Sport designs, names that essentially convey their looks and purpose. Most recently, the tenders division added electric models. Fully custom tenders are available, too.
This particular repeat customer signed a contract for a Hodgdon Tenders Limousine, an Open, and a Beachlander Sport tender. While each has the same 40-foot LOA, they differ in a variety of details. The Limousine tender, for example, will have plush leather interior seating for 15 people and climate control. Although a fixed roof is onboard, it has a large glass section, brightening up the ambience for yacht-to-shore trips. Additionally sure to keep the guests content: integrated champagne storage. The Open tender, meanwhile, will have a big cockpit for guests, along with a large sunpad nearby. Finally, the Beachlander Sport tender (similar in style to the one pictured) will cater to watersports and fishing. It will be capable of literally landing guests on the beach as well, with a hydraulic bow ramp making stepping ashore simple (and dry). Other onboard features include a head and a folding T top.
“Having delivered numerous American-built tenders to top projects, we have had a full order book at Hodgdon Tenders and we’re grateful for the opportunity to build three more,” Audrey Hodgdon, the director of sales and marketing, says.
The tenders will all see delivery in 2025.
