Promising speeds exceeding 30 knots, the first Pershing GTX116 yacht lowered into the water at the Italian shipyard last week. Though her triple-diesel propulsion package has yet to fire up, the megayacht follows in the footsteps of her larger swift sisters, with a twist.
The twist is that the 116-foot (35.24-meter) model is a new style direction for Pershing Yachts. Pershing considers her a cross between a sport fly, which has traditionally been the builder’s focus, and a luxury cruiser. Interestingly, Pershing owners in recent years have expressed a desire to have more family-focused areas, especially close to the waterline.
Therefore, the Pershing GTX116 yacht has a cockpit-like area right off the swim platform. Slide-open sections of the cockpit fully aft transform it into more of an open-air beach club, too. This is radically different than previous Pershing projects. It further feels like an extension of the main aft deck due to two curving staircases and a seating area perched right at the edge of the aft deck. Also radically different, a hot tub is the center of attention on the foredeck. Of course, the Pershing GTX116 yacht still has a flying bridge, with 441 square feet (41 square meters) of sunning and seating areas. Overall, the new model has 1,776 square feet (165 square meters) of outdoor areas.
Though photos of the interior aren’t available, the first Pershing GTX116 yacht has five total staterooms, including the full-beam master suite. (Maximum beam is 25 feet, or nearly 8 meters.) All staterooms sit below decks, to free up the main deck for day-to-night family time. To ensure all generations enjoy the ambience, the main deck has sliding-glass doors to port, opening up the saloon to the great outdoors.
Sea trials in the coming weeks should confirm a top speed just over 32 knots, with triple MANs and waterjets.
