Formerly going by the name Project Skyfall, the fishing-cockpit-equipped Ultra G yacht is officially in the water. Heesen Yachts’ first launch of the year, too, she promises to leave others in her wake, packing a lot of power beneath her decks.
The 194-foot (59-meter) motoryacht further celebrated her christening during the last days of January. Sea trials should confirm a top speed of 37 knots under light load. She employs Van Oossanen Naval Architects’ Fast Displacement Hull Form, which Heesen has equipped all its projects with for several years. The all-aluminum megayacht also carries four 5,500-hp MTUs—totaling 22,000 hp—driving four Kongsberg waterjets. The two outer waterjets are steerable units, while the two inner ones are fixed boosters. Additionally, the inner engines will be the ones providing the fast speeds when needed. The waterjets, meanwhile, help keep draft relatively low, less than 9 feet (3 meters). They further quell vibration by about 40 percent versus yachts where traditional drive shafts and props are part of the engine package. Keep in mind, too, that sportfishing yachts back down on big fish, so comfort while maneuvering is extra important.
Of course, the owner, family, and friends won’t be fishing full time. Therefore the Ultra G yacht design caters to good conversations and entertainment. In fact, entertainment plays a big role onboard. For instance, Samsung’s The Wall—with a 146-inch display—is the centerpiece of the media room. A games table is in the room as well, forward on the main deck. In the saloon, a custom wine refrigerator keeps prized vintages at the right temperatures and is as much a showpiece as a practical piece. Outside, meanwhile, an infinity pool aft on the sundeck is a highlight.
When the owner’s arms are sore from fighting fish, a hot tub in the en suite master bath is ideal. The owner’s suite is much like a private apartment, located on the bridge deck. It further has its own alfresco area. Guests get four staterooms below decks. Even furry guests are welcome. In fact, the Ultra G yacht design team created a special doggie relief area with synthetic grass and an auto-flushing system.
Yet another notable aspect of the Ultra G yacht design is space for a 79-foot (24-meter) Vanquish tender.
Finally, if you’re wondering why the owner chose Heesen Yachts for a mega sportfisherman, the reason is simple. Some of the inspiration came from Obsessions, which launched in 1996 as the then-largest fishing yacht in the world. Her LOA: 126 feet (38 meters). Additional inspiration came from the 128-foot (39-meter) Heesen Red Sapphire, a 1999 delivery.
