When the Rossinavi project BEL1 launched in March, onlookers immediately saw a sporty superyacht. What they couldn’t yet see, however, were the details within the design. This 164-footer (50-meter) has a remarkable amount of both indoor and outdoor space, unmatched even by some larger yachts. The owner of the yacht BEL1 ultimately chose Rossinavi not only for its custom abilities, but also for an iconic design immediately setting her apart.

Fulvio De Simoni, responsible for styling, admits that what the owner wanted to achieve wasn’t easy. “Its originality and architectural complexity posed significant challenges,” he says. Simultaneously, there were benefits. “It also allowed us to express our creativity by inventing new forms without compromising functionality or the enjoyment of life onboard,” De Simoni says. Among the ways the studio and shipyard did this: creating a mezzanine deck. It’s an entirely alfresco area halfway between the main and upper decks. This provides the owner of the yacht BEL1 with some secluded space when more private time is in order.

To another extent, the mezzanine makes the aft portions of the sundeck and main deck more cohesive. Since each has a sunning area perched aft, they appear more like one large, three-level alfresco lounge. Yet, when several guests are onboard, they can spread out across the different areas and still feel like they have their own retreats. It helps that the sundeck alone encompasses 1,561 square feet (145 square meters), with a pool, a bar, and a dining table. A retractable TV can face forward or aft, depending on where guests gather. Note, too, that sliding glass panels can protect diners on breezy or cool days, greatly extending the months of use.

The amount of attention that the owner of the yacht BEL1 paid to alfresco areas extends to the bow, too. Not content with just a vertical form, he wanted stylistic hallmarks as well. Therefore, black paint accentuates its curves, and the curves flank a sceptre-like design at the tip. Additionally, the black and dark-aluminum tones outside complement similar colors inside, for artistic continuity.

Enrico Gobbi – Team for Design specifically used gradients of greys, taupes, and blacks for warmth and contemporary, sophisticated appeal. Brushed American walnut and matte-finished Thai woods pair with leather panels on the walls. Custom furnishings, multiple marbles, Murano glass, and other artwork enhance areas like the skylounge, too. Though, the designers and the owner of the yacht BEL1 did decide to make a big impression in the lobby. Here, a brass-toned and backlist stairway, in honeycomb aluminum, is both practical and beautiful.

With opening balconies off the main-deck dining area and saloon, plus large windows in the master suite, the megayacht does still follow some tradition. She further does so with her beach club, featuring three opening sides, plus a four-guest-stateroom layout below decks. Still, her owner wanted—and received—an expression of his own imagination that doesn’t closely resemble any other yacht.

With a cruising speed of 14 knots, BEL1 is spending her maiden season in the Med.
