A loyal Riva owner will take delivery of the biggest project to date from the storied builder. Stretching 230 feet (70 meters), the Riva 70 Metri yacht is already under construction, too, for delivery in 2028.
The Ferretti Group is keeping the majority of details, along with full looks, confidential for now. It does, though, emphasize a special pronunciation for the superyacht series’ name. During a press conference at the Monaco Yacht Show last week, Alberto Galassi, CEO of the Ferretti Group, indicated that the correct pronunciation is “Riva Settanta Metri” (“seventy” is “settanta” in Italian). Similar to how Italian supercar brands use Italian words for the model names, Riva is returning to a time-honored tradition.
Also in keeping with tradition, the Riva 70 Metri yacht series bears the signature of Officina Italiana Design for styling and interiors. The studio is responsible for all Rivas. Mauro Micheli, chief designer, and Sergio Beetta, the CEO, say the owner quite liked the looks of the Riva 50 Metri and “dreamed of a design inspired by it.” Specifically, timeless, classic lines were important, as were overall aesthetics. Nothing should be too off-the-moment in terms of the looks and feel. “We embraced this challenge with enthusiasm and conviction, because these values represent our firm’s DNA and form part of our design philosophy,” Micheli and Beretta say.
Although the contributing parties cannot yet describe the materials for the staterooms and saloons, nor the arrangements, one technical feature is worth noting. The Riva 70 Metri yacht series will employ hybrid propulsion. Additionally, she’ll have a waste-heat-recovery system, plus a PTO/PTI system. PTO is “power take-off,” while PTI is “power take-in.” In PTO mode, excess power from the engines transfers to handle the yacht’s electrical needs. This therefore lessens the reliance on gensets for the hotel loads. PTI mode, meanwhile, taps electric motors to handle certain maneuvers. Notably, the owner specifically requested more environmentally minded systems be aboard. Similarly, he requested good sound- and vibration-deadening.
The steel and aluminum Riva 70 Metri yacht “will take the magnificent universe of Riva’s style features and detailing into a new dimension,” Galassi says.
Interestingly, the anticipated launch will come three years after the next-largest megayacht model, the Riva 54 Metri (below). Hull number one in that series started construction last year, set for launch in 2025. Hull number two follows in 2026, with hull number three coming in 2027.
