Although there’s often good reason to question whether to mess with success, sometimes it’s a matter of improving versus messing. Tankoa Yachts is following this philosophy with its latest model, the Tankoa S20 yacht series. She picks up where the builder’s first, and arguably most successful, series left off, tapping into the increasingly evolving desires that modern cruisers have.

That first series was the S501 series, which included the yacht Kinda, along with three previous deliveries. At 163-feet (49.8-meters), the general dimensions and arrangement of the S501 suited a significant portion of yacht buyers. So, too, did the styling from Francesco Paszkowski Design, a blend of contemporary sportiness and classic appeal. With the S520 series, Tankoa has teamed with the same studio, and is preserving the six-stateroom layout. However, there are enough differences for customers to want to take a closer look.

For instance, the LOA is 171 feet (52 meters), affording significantly more alfresco areas. Outdoor space has “become a top priority for yacht owners,” according to Paszkowski. Notably, the Tankoa S520 yacht series has a longer, and wider, sundeck. The sundeck additionally includes an infinity pool, something beloved by owners and guests alike these days. Similarly, the flying bridge is elongated, handily accommodating a big seating area, alfresco dining for the full 12-person party, plus a cozy sunning spot. Yet another difference, the swim platform, beach area, and main aft deck blend from one into the next without barriers. Two opening side platforms enhance enjoyment as well. What’s more, two sunning areas amid the two-level expanse gain side protection from glass insets. This makes the space usable while underway.
The physical dimensions have made the Tankoa S520 yacht more practical and functional, too, in Paszkowski’s and the builder’s eyes. For example, the passerelle is built into the swim platform. Toys stow on the foredeck, with a launching crane incorporated into the yacht’s structure. Foot traffic from deck to deck outside occurs just to port as well, to open up relaxation space.

Even the interior benefits from the practical-focused changes. The Tankoa S520 yacht has higher ceilings and therefore taller windows, too, than those of the S501 series. While buyers can completely customize each room, Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini penned an intriguing suggested design. Specifically, to preserve the popular open-plan main-deck layout yet lend a semblance of separation, they use overlapping panels and partitions.

From rounded shapes to abundant light-filled spaces, clients have plenty to keep their interest—and use for a conversation starter.
