Lionel Messi’s New Yacht Coming From Sunreef Yachts

Add another high-profile athlete to the family of customers at Sunreef Yachts. Famed soccer player Lionel Messi has an Ultima 88 megayacht in build. Although the delivery date isn’t announced, she’ll join Messi’s MIM Ocean fleet.

At nearly 88 feet (26.8 meters) in length, the Ultima 88 yacht is a catamaran, the configuration for all Sunreef Yachts projects. The twin hulls lend stability underway, plus create significant usable space on the main deck. A power catamaran, the project should see a top speed of 26 knots, according to Sunreef. Since the open-plan layout on the main deck extends across the full 30-foot (9.1-meter) beam. Messi and his family should enjoy an airy, elbowroom-friendly experience. They’ll enjoy more usable space closer to the water, too. Fold-down side platform aft create Sunreef’s Ocean Lounge in conjunction with the tender garage and a hydraulic swim platform. This makes the area the center of activity for watersports and swimming.

Messi’s new yacht will be the biggest in his MIM Ocean Fleet, which currently includes three other catamarans for charter. Their names are, suitably, MIM Ocean 1, MIM Ocean 2, and MIM Ocean 3. (No word yet on the name for the Sunreef.) All charter in the Balearic Islands in the summer. The new megayacht should, too, plus will be for Messi and his family to use. The four staterooms aboard will accommodate eight people. “My family and I have always loved spending time at sea whenever we get the chance,” he says. “Sunreef Yachts have the style and features I really like, and they’re a perfect fit for what I’m looking for.”

Messi is one of several athletes to sign a contract with Sunreef Yachts. Earlier this year, for instance, tennis great Carlos Alcaraz commissioned an Ultima 88. Nico Rosberg, a Formula 1 driver, owns an 80 Eco sailing superyacht, while tennis champion Rafael Nadal has an 80 Sunreef Power.
