You’re looking at the superstructure for Phoebe, Moonen’s first 99 Alu, being placed on the hull in preparation for the yard’s welders to join the two parts. The marriage of sorts took place last month at the builder’s facility in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Holland.
Featuring low-profile styling by René van der Velden Design, Phoebe is, as her name implies, 99 feet LOA and all aluminium–except for her mast, which is composite for further weight savings. She’s being built for clients who admired another of Moonen’s semidisplacement megayachts, the 94-foot Nilo, which launched last year. (Nilo was also the first 94 Alu.) Since these owners wanted larger crew’s quarters, the extended hull design was more suitable.
But the “pocket-size superyacht,” as Moonen likes to call its boats, still shares similarities to the 94 Alu series. Phoebe will have controllable-pitch propellers and an anticipated top speed of 25 knots based on tank tests of her round-bilge hull. That hull was designed by Stolk Marimecs and is constructed of Sealium, a lightweight, corrosion-resistant alloy developed for the aerospace industry. Also like the 94 Alu series, the saloon and dining areas share the same space, as you can see in the sketch below. The interior design and layout come courtesy of Rhoades Young Designs, and it’s highlighted by walnut joinery.
Look for Phoebe to launch next summer.
