Following in the footsteps of the 171, 177, and 212 Limited Editions models, Amels is unveiling the Amels 199.
With exterior styling by Tim Heywood and interior design by Nuvolari Lenard, the 199 resulted from conversations with a variety of people, including owners, crew, project managers, brokers, and even suppliers. Amels additionally consulted Lloyd’s Register, Delft Technical University, and MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), the renowned firm providing tank testing and other nautical research and training services to a variety of builders, both pleasure- and commercial-oriented. The goal was to develop a series build like the rest of the Limited Editions offerings, yet one with new ideas, including “green” features.
One of the most obvious differences lies in the profile, starting with the curved vertical bow and extending to moderate tumblehome, wing-station pods on the bridge deck, round ports, flared wings, and vertical mullions. Amels’ in-house naval architects have designed and engineered the 199 for low resistance and high fuel efficiency, with a 16.5-knot top speed – a speed which the yard says is comparable to superyachts measuring a good six or seven meters (20 to 23 feet) longer.
To fulfill the “green” aspects, the Amels 199 employs LED lighting, redirects the gensets’ energy outpout to heat the fresh water, environmentally friendly refrigerants and sewage treatment; and HUG Engineering filters to eliminate genset exhaust soot. (A Swiss company, HUG Engineering is a leading manufacturer of emission solutions for diesel engines for power plants, diesel-powered generation sets, ships and locomotives.)
While owners will be able to customize the interior materials, the layout includes direct access from the owner’s suite to a foredeck lounging area as well as from the guest staterooms below to the indoor/outdoor beach club and swim platform. There’s a decided emphasis on relaxation areas on this megayacht, with protected dining aft on the sundeck, a skylounge on the bridge deck and a private gathering spot forward on the same level, complete with Jacuzzi.
Amels plans to unveil further details at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show.
