Since when does it take five to tango? When a megayacht is christened Tango 5. Tango 5 was launched last week by Horizon, as part of its EP, a.k.a. expedition, series. She’s actually an extended version of the EP110 model, with the difference being a cockpit.
Tango 5, and the Horizon EP110 in general, are on the larger end of the scale of the full EP series. It further includes the EP148, EP77, and EP69. Measuring 115 feet (35 meters), Tango 5 features the same construction approach as the others, incorporating a fiberglass superstructure and steel hull. The latter is further equipped with a bulbous bow. That should make for better seakeeping when the twin 1,100-hp MAN diesels are engaged and the megayacht is enjoying up to a reported 3,000-mile range.
Eight guests, all accommodated below decks, can accompany the owners on voyages. The master suite is forward on the main deck, making the most of the 25-foot (7.7-meter) beam. Everyone can head up to the flying bridge for open-air relaxation, but the action will be in the cockpit, arranged for fishing and diving.
Tango 5, built to Bureau Veritas classification, is for a Singapore-based owner and marks the largest project Horizon has sold for that region. She’ll be delivered in March and debut at the following month’s Boat Asia Show.
UPDATE, APRIL 12, 2013: Tango 5 was officially christened and delivered on April 7, following sea trials. Her owners, the Tang family (hence the megayacht’s name), and guests looked on as a pastor that the Tangs invited blessed both Tango 5 and them. Horizon also had a surprise for the owners, a pair of dolls that dance the tango.
