It’s been 10 months since IAG Yachts and an American signed a contract for Serenity. Last month, the 133-foot (40.4-meter) Serenity saw her main deck and hull joined together.
IAG Yachts says construction is progressing on schedule. The hull emerged from its mold, for example, five months after contract. When the deck and hull were joined, IAG Yachts says, only a few modifications were needed. Typically, shipyards don’t reference things like this. But, Serenity is a new design for the relatively young builder. Therefore, the China-based yard holds that it’s an accomplishment. IAG Yachts also says that the deck-to-hull interface required no refitting.
IAG Yachts terms Serenity a Noble Star Terrazza model. There are two reasons behind the series name. First, Serenity is similar in profile to the yard’s Noble Star 140 series. Both bear styling by Evan K. Marshall. “Terrazza” is part of the name due to permanent balconies. One is forward on the main deck, and the other is farther aft on the upper deck. The balconies were incorporated at the request of the owner.
Like her predecessor, the six-stateroom Serenity will serve her owner’s family and charter guests. IAG Yachts is building the Noble Star Terrazza to RINA’s Charter Class and MCA requirements. Naval architecture is by Axis Group Yacht Design. Marshall is additionally working with the owner on the interior. Only a few specifics have been revealed about the decor and layout. The saloon will be full beam (26’2”, or 8 meters). The owner’s suite will be on the main deck, with the rest of guests below decks. Crew’s quarters for six are below decks, too.
One notable change about Serenity is her engine package. When the megayacht was announced, she was expected to have traditional twin Caterpillar power. Now, IAG Yachts reveals, she’ll have diesel-electric engines. The yard anticipates a 3,000-nautical-mile range at 12 knots. (With the traditional diesels, Serenity was expected to have a range of 2,600 nautical miles at the same speed.) Top end should be 18 knots.
Delivery for Serenity is set for 2015.
