When a professional racecar driver is the U.S. representative for a powerboat builder, you know you’re in for a sweet ride. Sweden’s Delta Powerboats has collaborated with its director of the Americas, Chapman Ducote, on the 26 Open Black Edition. The 26’6” boat is being marketed as both a megayacht tender and a day cruiser, promising hair-raising speeds.
With orange Sunbrella fabrics on deck popping in contrast to the rich black hull, the 26 Open Black Edition is meant to attract attention. That is, if your cruise speed of about 40 knots and top end near 50 knots don’t give onlookers whiplash. Those speeds should come with one of the three engine options, a single 380-hp Volvo Penta stern drive. Two other Volvo Penta stern drives of 220 and 320 hp are also available.
The swift speeds are partly due to the 26 Open Black Edition’s construction. Delta Powerboats employs carbon fiber in its builds for its touted properties of weight savings and strength. Vacuum infusion is also used for strength and weight savings.
The 26 Open Black Edition has additional practical features. The 8’5” beam provides enough space for you and several guests to relax. The teak table and settee aft can convert to a sunning/lounging spot. A small cooktop, sink, and refrigerator, all beneath the helm benchseat, suit simple snack-making. (A set of flatware and dishware comes with the 26 Open Black Edition, too.) If you want a little shade, a hidden bimini is standard. Or, take a nap on the berth in the cabin, which also has a head. Of course, you can also have the sounds of your favorite cruising tunes pump through Bose waterproof speakers.
The 26 Open Black Edition is available for test drives in Miami through Delta Powerboats’ American office, Delta Carbon Yachts.
