The first of two community-service initiatives by IGY Marinas resulted in more than 300 volunteers tailoring assistance to non-profits throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.
Termed “Inspire Giving Through You,” IGY Marinas’ outreach occurred simultaneously on February 20 near eight of its properties. Specifically, the marinas were in St. Thomas, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, the Turks & Caicos, Columbia, and Mexico. IGY Marinas staff, yacht owners, captains, crews, and local residents provided a variety of hands-on help.
Here’s an overview of what Inspire Giving Through You volunteers did:
- St. Thomas: cleaning and painting the pool deck, showers, and restrooms of a community pool; installing new ceiling fans and light fixtures, removing unused/broken equipment, and organizing supplies at the Boys & Girls Club
- St. Lucia: painting the outside of the Boys Training Centre, a juvenile-rehabilitation facility, plus cleaning its grounds, improving a food garden with new plants, and installing exterior lights
- St. Maarten: installing doors, creating closets, improving a playground, and adding a fence and awning for shade for an outside play area at the ICAN Foundation Orphanage
- Turks & Caicos: upgrading technology-related items and restocking the food pantry at Provo Children’s Home, a care facility for orphans and at-risk children
- Columbia: repairing and painting the facilities of the Fundehumac Foundation, which provides access to primary, secondary, and higher education to at-risk children, most of whom are orphans,
- Mexico: upgrading the Cabo Carolina Cerebral Palsy Foundation’s office; building ramps, repairing walkways, and beautifying two local parks.
“Their generosity has hopefully inspired others in the yachting community and beyond to spend time with friends and colleagues to give back,” says Tom Mukamal, IGY Marinas’ CEO. “We look forward to significantly expanding these efforts in seasons to come.”
IGY Marinas is holding a second Inspire Giving Through You day on June 11. It will involve efforts in New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, Florida, Panama, and the United Kingdom.
