A Brazilian owner who’s an “all outdoors all the time” cruiser found a kindred spirit in Astondoa. The builder created the 110 Century for customers to revel in alfresco enjoyment, from dawn to dusk. And it wants them to do so without the need for a large crew.
The owner of Sophye, hull number one in the series, has plenty of areas aboard to spend time with his family outside. The foredeck seating area and accompanying huge sunpad certainly beckon. “Huge” is the operative word here, as the photo below shows. A bimini can be set up over the seats if guests have had enough sun. Astondoa, which started construction on the 110 Century prior to the owner signing the contract, wisely arranged for an independent toy garage here. Take a close look forward of the sunpad. You’ll see one of the two PWCs—four-seaters apiece—that Sophye totes. Typically, a megayacht of this size has the sunpad situated atop the garage. Astondoa instead has the sunpad end before the hinged area of the garage begins.
Even when they’re inside, everyone aboard Sophye can still feel as if they’re outside. The skylights in the skylounge (below), along with the liberal use of white lacquered surfaces, create a fresh feel. Cristiano Gatto Design and the owner wanted to avoid a “New York penthouse look,” so to speak. Nothing too fussy or stylized. Note the teak decking that rims the room. This isn’t to say that there’s no style, though. See the black section of sole? That’s carbon fiber. On a related note, the custom-made furnishings came from Astondoa itself.
The avoidance of fussiness applies to the crew, too. The Astondoa 110 Century is intended to be handled by six hands. Sophye sometimes operates with just three. When hospitality is on order, the three additional crew come into play. But the owner and guests can and do help themselves to snacks and refreshments. It’s thanks to 16 (yes, 16) refrigerators throughout. Guests are further welcome in the galley, where three barstools invite them to sit a while.
With a 23-foot (7-meter) beam and reported 20-knot cruise speed, the Astondoa 110 Century is meant for maximizing enjoyment. She’s particularly ideal for buyers who want a big-boat experience without stepping up to extra-large craft.
Here’s more of the 110 Century.
