Move over, Sanlorenzo 52 Steel. You have a bigger sister, the 64 Steel, which is now the biggest Sanlorenzo megayacht in the making.
At 210 feet, the 64 Steel has an equally healthy displacement, that being 1,500 gross tons. As the model name states, construction entails a steel hull. It’s also a displacement hull. Sanlorenzo intends the 64 Steel to see a top speed of 17 knots as well, regardless of power package. Customers get a choice of Caterpillar or MTU engines. The yard has not, however, revealed the range the megayacht should achieve. Given tradition in this size range, of course, it’s clearly transatlantic. And it’s likely that most efficient range will come in the 10- to 12-knot speed zone, for the same reason.
Sanlorenzo sold hull number one in the past several weeks. The shipyard isn’t not disclosing many details about the project, unfortunately. Thus far it will only say that delivery is set for 2019. No information is available on the layout, interior designer or decor, or even special features that the owners requested, unfortunately. Overall, however, the Sanlorenzo 64 Steel can have six or seven staterooms for you and your guests. Crew get nine cabins as well.
Hull number one is in build at a site that Sanlorenzo recently acquired in La Spezia, Italy. It’s within an hour’s drive of its primary location in Viareggio. The La Spezia site is dedicated to aluminum and steel construction, keeping fiberglass contained in Viareggio. Already, the metal shed has a handful of megayachts in different stages of construction. They include hulls in the 52 Steel series and the 460Exp series.
As much as the 64 Steel is Sanlorenzo’s biggest megayacht to date, she will not keep that title forever. In fact, Sanlorenzo intends to build up to 262 feet (80 meters) in the La Spezia facility. It also intends to refit megayachts to that LOA there.
