A megayacht exceeding 300 feet is surely capable of offering a variety of experiences. The project Spectrum, from Oceanco and Nauta Design, revolves around that very concept. The 334-footer (120-meter) presents a spectrum, if you will, of enjoyment among her relaxation areas. Simultaneously, she offers flexibility in her propulsion system.
Mario Pedol of Nauta Design says he partially drew on his background in sailing-yacht design for the hull shape. The build and design team performed a good amount of research to optimize the form. This was particularly important for the hybrid propulsion system they wanted for Spectrum. The system incorporates twin MTU 16V4000 M72 diesels and two electric motors. In typical diesel mode, Spectrum should see an 18½-knot top speed. In fact, Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco’s CEO, says the optimization tests determined they could use half the horsepower of a typical motoryacht of this LOA to go the same speeds.Fuel savings comes in engaging the electric motors, plus running only on them. (Oceanco and Nauta Design have not released speed or fuel-burn details related to these.)
From the owners’ deck on an upper level to accommodations for 12 guests, Spectrum offers many options, and advantages. Indoor spaces flow outside, due to opening glass doors and balconies. The owners’ suite, for example, enjoys access forward from the bedroom to a private alfresco spot. The spot includes a hot tub. Another private alfresco area aft on the owners’ deck contains a dining area. Two VIP guest suites contain balconies, with additional balconies in common areas for everyone’s benefit. The yacht also follows the ongoing trend of using as-large-as-possible windows.
To encourage relaxation, Spectrum devotes extensive space on the lower deck to well-being. A sauna, a steam room, and massage rooms should attract great interest. So, too, should what’s called a beauty-treatment room. (It’s up to the eventual owners to outfit the areas as they please.) Spectrum additionally has a gym down here, with a fold-down terrace. The massage area has an opening platform as well.
Whether desiring daytime conversation or nighttime drinks, guests get multiple lounges in which to indulge. Spectrum has the traditional main-deck saloon as well as one aft on the bridge deck. The bridge-deck lounge is especially welcoming due to a party-size hot tub just outside the doors. It measures about 10×10 feet (3×3 meters). Fitting for a yacht whose beam is 50 feet (15.3 meters).
