Cruising Italy this summer? If you have a super-size superyacht, Porto Mirabello’s Megayacht Quay is expanding to accommodate you.
Porto Mirabello is located in La Spezia. The marina claims it’s the only luxury marina in the country capable of accommodating yachts to 426’5” (130 meters).Currently, it has 100 berths for megayachts, specifically ones measuring 82 feet (25 meters) on up. Six of these berths are for megayachts measuring 213 feet (65 meters) and larger. The number of moorings for these latter big boats is going up. In fact, 11 are under construction, nearly fully finished, too. The goal is not just to accommodate growing LOAs. Porto Mirabello wants to become one of the biggest marina bases throughout the Med.
Furthermore, the renovations are improving other offerings at the marina. The main pier is benefiting from a “green” redesign. Palms will mark one side, with a variety of local plants along the way, too. In addition, the Megayacht Quay will soon have what the management team calls Sky Stairs. It’s a stairway leading directly from the docks to the Poet’s Lounge terrace. Previously, accessing the terrace required walking through the parking and storage facility beneath it. You can take in the views over the Gulf of Poets from up here, plus enjoy complimentary barbecues. The Poet’s Lounge is exclusively for megayacht customers.
Porto Mirabello, which is also awaiting ISPS certification, has staff available around the clock to help with docking and departures. It also offers in-slip fueling. For relaxation, there’s a pool, along with a newly opened wellness center and spa. They complement a gym and more than 30 shops on site, too. Several bars and restaurants are in the port as well. Some even deliver direct to your yacht, via a new E-Market for captains and crew to use. Furthermore, the concierge desk can take care of provisioning or other tasks, plus organize kayak outings, among other local adventures.
Speaking of local, Porto Mirabello is within about 22 nautical miles of a number of prominent Italian shipyards. These shipyards provide both new-build and refit services. And, a footbridge connects the marina to La Spezia, where restaurants and the rest of the city’s sights await.
