Yacht builders with loyal followings can’t ever do anything quietly. When Viking Yachts posted this photo of the launch of its 93 Motor Yacht earlier this month, hundreds of fans reacted. It proves that despite being renowned for its sportfishing boats, the builder still has plenty of customers who never wet a line. Equally noteworthy, the 93 Motor Yacht has officially become its biggest boat to date—among both its sportfishermen and its cruising craft.
Viking may not come to mind when considering megayacht builders. And, the New Jersey-based builder doesn’t think of itself one. It added the 93 Motor Yacht to its lineup to keep its growing customer base in the family. It also added the megayacht to appeal to experienced yacht owners who aren’t finding what they want elsewhere.
For instance, the 93 Motor Yacht, at 93’5” (28.47 meters), incorporates three decks. They’re primarily enclosed, too, though there are, of course, alfresco social spots. These include a bar with a grill aft of the wheelhouse, on the uppermost deck. The 93 Motor Yacht adds loose sun lounges here, too. A number of “small” megayachts still place dinghies here, having the deck do double duty. Instead, Viking dedicates the transom to housing the tender. Yet another alfresco bar welcomes guests on the main deck.
Something else the 93 Motor Yacht offers that few in her size do: accommodations for 10 guests. All four guest staterooms and the full-beam (24’4”, or 7.41-meter) master suite sit below decks. While a lobby yields access to the four guest cabins, the owner’s cabin has its own stairway. And, while some buyers of the 93 Motor Yacht may be owner-operators, there are two crew cabins just aft of the master. They get a small cooking area and dinette, too.
The primary galley is a country kitchen arrangement, ideal for those of you who like picking up cooking tips or just enjoy speaking with the chef. You can enjoy formal meals just aft in the dining area, lined with your choice of teak or walnut. (On a related note, Viking Yachts has its own in-house joinery department.)
Viking customers get a special preview of the 93 Motor Yacht at a company event in Atlantic City, New Jersey in September. Look for the global boat-show debut in Fort Lauderdale come November.
