A decade ago, we launched the first-ever podcast series in the superyacht market. Megayacht News Radio featured interviews with leaders in the yachting industry, from around the globe. Now, we’re bringing it back. What’s more, we’re introducing you to even more individuals and companies striving to make a difference in how you enjoy your favorite pastime.
Early guests of our podcast series included Bannenberg & Rowell, BWA Yachting, Feadship, Sparkman & Stephens, YachtAid Global, and more. Megayacht News Radio ran for a year and a half, through late 2010. As successful as it was—our episode with Dickie Bannenberg of Bannenberg & Rowell, for example, garnered more than 1,000 downloads—we decided to turn our focus elsewhere shortly thereafter. We wanted to explore the more visual-oriented ways of communicating online that were growing at the time. After all, they were growing faster than podcasting.
In recent years, interesting enough, podcasting has grown tremendously. In fact, the Infinite Dial report, which has been tracking the adoption of online audio, mobile devices, and social media services since 1998, just released its most recent survey results. It finds that 32 percent of Americans are monthly podcast listeners. This is an increase from last year, when the survey found 26 percent listened monthly. Notably, it’s also the largest year-over-year increase in the report’s history. In addition, Infinite Dial finds, 22 percent of Americans listen to podcasts on a weekly basis. Considering 51 percent of Americans say they’ve listened to a podcast at least once, according to the survey, it’s perfect timing for Megayacht News Radio.
So, what can you expect to hear, and when? Megayacht News Radio still features one-on-one conversations with the top shipyard representatives and designers. So, too, do we feature other professionals in the business. The conversations are not just about their current projects, either. We provide insightful, educational information about, for instance, the role of a project manager, and how to be vigilant in cyber security onboard. Plus, we’re also featuring more newcomers, since some fascinating changes are occurring in the megayacht business these days—changes that promise to benefit you. Our first new podcast is on our website today. Megayacht News Radio: Steve Gresham, Gresham Yacht Design is a conversation with the eponymous head of the UK-based design studio.
