Flying-bridge motoryachts remain perennially popular. Van der Valk Shipyard in The Netherlands has put a contemporary twist on not only the exterior styling, but also the interior looks. Its all-aluminum Modern Flybridge offers three decor packages and even more choices when it comes to furnishings and layout.
Van der Valk has built a number of flying-bridge-equipped yachts and megayachts over the years. With Cor D. Rover Design, it updated the series to incorporate floor-to-ceiling glass along the main deck. Now that hull number one, an 84-footer (25.5-meter), is in build on spec, the designer and builder are enticing inquiries by releasing the aptly named interior moods.
Specifically, three collections are yours from which to choose: Cosy Cognac (below), Cyan Life (top), and Sensation White. Additionally, within each, you can choose between black and polished stainless steel mullions on the main deck. In coming up with these tones and textures, the idea was to keep the relaxation areas warm and welcoming, equally suitable for sitting down with your kids for family time or with friends over a glass of wine. The color combinations continue below decks, too.
Regardless of your color preference, note that the Van der Valk Modern Flybridge has an open floorplan. The shipyard and design teams further eschew the little-used (and space-stealing) formal dining area. Instead, they include a two-section hi-low table between the aft seating area and the galley. Interestingly, the aft end can stay low, with the other half high, like a bar. Since they’re two separate pieces, the sections can move wherever you wish. It’s in keeping with the yacht featuring entirely loose furnishings, giving you a lot of leeway overall.
The galley is notably different, too. Many European shipyards still put the galley below decks, in the crew area, keeping it a small (arguably cramped) space. American owners are sometimes owner-operators, of course, plus many enjoy a more casual life onboard. The Van der Valk Modern Flybridge configuration will surely please as a result.
Hull number one can see delivery 10 months after you settle on the design package.
