In the Hawaiian language, Hale Kai (Ha-lay Kī) means “home on the sea.” Halekai holds that very same meaning for her owners. The sailing superyacht, a Truly Classic design, celebrated her official launch last week at Pendennis.
The Truly Classic series comes from the naval-architecture studio Hoek Design. Several different models are within the series, too, spanning a wide range of sizes. As for Halekai, she is a Truly Classic 128, measuring 128 feet (39.3 meters) LOA. Specifically, the sailing yacht is the fourth Truly Classic 128 to date. “Classic” refers to her time-honored hull shape and above-water styling. Additionally, the hull is a proven design, yet the series still offers a high level of customization for the deck plan plus the interior arrangement and decor.
The owners of Halekai are no stranger to Hoek Design, or to yachting. In fact, they have had three previous sailing yachts to enjoy. Just as the owners and design studio are familiar with one another, so, too, do Hoek Design and Pendennis enjoy a previous working relationship. It comes in the form of yet another Truly Classic 128, Vijonara, which was built in 2018. Interestingly, the yacht-management team for that project, MCM, has also been working with the owner of Halekai.
Although interior photos are not available, the design is by America-based Ken Fulk. With teams in both New York and San Francisco, he has earned a reputation for creating layered interiors for homes, private jets, restaurants, and hotels. He further “designs” special celebrations for clients, ranging from birthday parties to family getaways. Fulk posted photos from the launch on Instagram, commenting:

Pendennis says that following sea trials, the yacht, with a sail area of 10,172 square feet (945 square meters) and beam of 25 feet (7.7 meters), will sail around the world.
