In The Netherlands, large private yachts squeeze through the canals and wind their way through the countryside for sea trials on a regular basis. The funny thing is, no matter how many times the local citizens see this happen, they stop and marvel. We do the very same thing, if we are being honest. Feadship’s Somnium is the latest to make the journey from her site of build to the open, wide waters of the North Sea. And, she is the latest to captivate our attention as she carefully navigates the narrow canals.
Launched earlier this month, the 181-foot (55.2-meter) megayacht revolves around the lives of three generations of a close-knit family. They have plans to put her 4,500-nautical-mile range to extensive use by visiting countries all over the world. In fact, a series of world cruises are in the works. Of course, they have plans to make some lifelong memories in the process, too.
Feadship’s Somnium is already making lifelong memories. For instance, if you ever meet her primary owner, he can tell you in rich detail how he visited Feadship every two weeks. Further be sure to ask about the Friday evening beers he shared with the craftspeople. It’s safe to say few owners forge these types of friendships, and few shipyard workers can say they got to know the clients this well. Additionally, as you watch the video, you’ll see people on the shoreline recording the moments with their mobile phones.
