To say that Mike Horn thrills to adventure is an understatement. Over more than two decades, he’s accomplished extraordinary explorations. These include completing a solo trip around the equator via a non-motorized boat and a kayak (plus a bicycle). Horn has also sailed around the world for four years educating youth about the environment. His latest adventure sees him as the ambassador to the new Sunreef Explorer Line, for circumnavigation enthusiasts.
Sunreef already revealed two yachts that are part of the series, the 50M Sunreef Explorer and the 40M Sunreef Explorer. At the time of their unveiling, however, they were simply new models in Sunreef’s overall power-catamaran lineup. Although further models in the Sunreef Explorer Line remain unknown at this time, the shipyard does plan to release details. If the rendering above is any indication, three more yachts are coming.
Creating a dedicated series was a natural step, according to Francis Lapp, Sunreef’s founder and president. “The definition of luxury has changed over the years,” he notes. “Nowadays, true luxury is a sensation, a feeling, an experience. Our new Explorer Line is all about living the moment.”
Overall, the series prioritizes longer-range cruising to support extended voyages. Similar to Horn’s expeditions, the yachts and superyachts are intended to encourage customers to discover new regions. Of course, redundant systems and strong fuel economy, combined with the catamaran hull form’s efficiency, are important factors. Shallow draft is further a priority for the full range, so that clients can enjoy skinny waters as much as icy depths.
The Sunreef Explorer Line follows Sunreef Yachts’ philosophy of semi-custom design, too. This means clients can customize interior observation lounges, staterooms, alfresco areas, and more. For example, the 40M Sunreef Explorer can have a hydraulically folding platform aft to turn the transom into a full-beam (44-foot/13.34-meter) beach club. The main-deck master can have a deploying balcony, too.
Buyers additionally can choose the exploration-oriented toys that best suit their intended adventures, stowed as they so wish. For instance, with the 50M Sunreef Explorer, the shipyard’s design team already has incorporated toy garages with dedicated cranes for launching and retrieval of sailing dinghies, e-foils, and even e-bikes.
