In a few languages, “orkan” refers to a storm with strong winds, much like a hurricane. Project Orkan will sweep into the superyacht sector in a few years’ time upon launch from Nobiskrug.
Thus far, just hints at her styling are available. The 272-footer (83-meter) comes from the drawing boards of Harrison Eidsgaard Design. In fact, both styling and interior design are from the London-based studio. Peder Eidsgaard, one of the studio’s partners, particularly calls attention to Project Orkan having sculpted lines and what eventually will be “pure white surfaces.” Additionally, the megayacht will have “a distinctive appearance with very simple graphics.”
Although the owner remains confidential, as do the majority of the details about the yacht, Project Orkan will revolve around laid-back living. As such, she’ll have expansive alfresco areas, which of course include a beach club. Several areas onboard will be indoor-outdoor areas, too, again in keeping with current trends. Further as you’d expect of such a large project, she’ll have a certified helicopter landing pad. No information is available about the number of staterooms, but given the LOA, quite conceivably the yacht will have more than 12 passengers.
Nobiskrug is providing naval architecture and engineering. For now, the only other details that it will disclose involve the propulsion package. The owner of Project Orkan has requested a hybrid system incorporating batteries. It will, among other things, permit anchorless station keeping especially in sensitive waters of the world.
The new contract is among several significant-size superyachts joining the order books at Nobiskrug in recent months. Nobiskrug 798, for instance, is a 262-footer (80-meter) with an expected delivery in 2025. Its in-house team is providing naval-architecture and engineering services for this, too, with Winch Design handling styling and interior design.
