If big boats with big masts taking on big winds gets your heart pumping, this video is for you. The second Southern Wind Rendezvous of the year, which just took place this month in Sardinia, was one that the owners, crew, and guests won’t soon forget.
Sun, spray, and white-capped seas characterized the get-together straight from day one. In fact, Mistral winds were gusting to an intense 37 knots at times. Despite that, however, the fleet didn’t hesitate to head out. Sailing superyachts from the shipyard over the years like Acaia, Ammonite (pictured above), Kiboko, Seatius, and more pointed their bows toward the course. The smiles you’ll see on the faces of those onboard tells it all: confidence that the conditions weren’t too challenging, or unsafe.
The Southern Wind Rendezvous certainly gave them abundant opportunities to put their yachts to the test. The courses were pretty lengthy, 20 to 30 nautical miles in fact. All the while, Sardinia’s famous Costa Smeralda created the backdrop.
The evenings on land, at the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo, allowed owners and crew to swap stories of how they coaxed the most out of their performance sailing superyachts. The nights further afforded them the chance to share what they appreciate most about their yachts. And, of course, for Southern Wind to thank them for being part of the family.
Sit back and enjoy watching the spinnakers fly and superyacht bows slice through the water at the Southern Wind Rendevzous. This is one big, bold ride.
