An owner who wanted his full family to have smiles on their faces while out on the water watched as the Benetti FB283 yacht, his project, lower into the water the last full week of January. The launch was the latest milestone making the last few years worth the wait.
Construction began on the fully custom 203-footer (62-meter) during the Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020. Thankfully, between 3D renderings and video calls, the owner could feel a bit more connected to the developments. The owner further had on-site representation through Nicola Nicolai of Nicolai Yacht Consulting & Project Management. Nicolai was both the owner’s representative and the project manager.
Interestingly, the owner specified four “musts” for the Benetti FB283 yacht. (The megayacht’s true name remains confidential, therefore we are using the hull number as the reference.) Specifically, the shipyard and design teams needed to ensure she had good speed, was quiet, was capable of long range, and was lots of fun. For speed, Van Oossanen Naval Architects collaborated with Benetti on a fast-displacement steel hull form. The superyacht should see a spirited top speed of 21 knots, in fact, yet still enjoy 4,500 nautical miles of range at the most-efficient cruising speed.
As mentioned, the owner wanted the family to have smiles on their faces while they spent time onboard. Besides having social areas where they all can enjoy each other’s company, the Benetti FB263 yacht has a plethora of watertoys. For instance, a few PWCs are onboard, as is a 33-foot (10-meter) tender. Dive gear is aboard, too. All the watertoys and related accessories stow in a garage in an unusual location. It’s forward on the upper deck. Benetti likens it to a cathedral due to its voluminous nature. Further ensuring fun, and quickly, the superyacht has a touch-and-go helipad. This way the family can arrive and head right to the transom to board toys if they so wish.
With smooth, flowing exterior lines, the Benetti FB263 yacht also shows off wood and stone furnishings inside, all by the Giorgio Cassetta design studio. Massive windows—about 20×6 ½ feet (6×2 meters)— along the main and upper decks fill the interior with natural light.
