Hull number two of the Arksen 85 yacht series, nicknamed Project Pelagos, is closer than ever to far-flung cruising. She celebrated her launch and is prepping for sea trials in the coming days.
Signed in September 2021, the rugged-looking megayacht follows in the footsteps of hull number one. Naval architecture and styling is by Humphreys Yacht Design, allowing extreme-conditions capabilities. Even though the owners of Project Pelagos will pursue distant shores, they’ll spend most days with family in the Med. The owners chose Arksen for its emphasis on ocean conservation and protection as much as the off-the-beaten-path ability. “I believe this pioneering and refreshing path that Arksen is taking will make them a driving force in the future of the explorer-yacht industry,” one owner says.
The founder of Arksen, Jasper Smith, shared at its inception in 2019, “We set out to create a great company; one that could have a profound impact on the lives of the owners of our vessels and that could actively contribute to a better understanding of the oceans.” Arksen therefore has partnered with science-oriented organizations to allow owners to welcome researchers and scientists aboard to conduct their work.

When the family is aboard, though, the Arksen 85 yacht will cater to casual, laid-back get-togethers. The interior of the main deck, for instance, follows an open concept prioritizing seating. Dining, meanwhile, will be nearly entirely outside, especially because of Med cruising. The three-deck megayacht further has accommodations for a total of eight passengers, along with a dedicated captain’s cabin by the wheelhouse. Interestingly, the owners of Project Pelagos opted to replace the skylounge with this cabin.
“We can’t wait to see the vessel off on her adventures and find out what marine science they are able to support as part of that journey,” says Dominic Byrne, Arksen’s sales and marketing director.
Project Pelagos will be followed in a few months by the launch of yet another Arksen 85 yacht. She’s Project Ocean. Additionally, she’ll be available for interested customers to see, likely at boat shows.
