WATCH: Amels 120 Yacht Project Signature Appears for the First Time

It’s been three years since Damen Yachting announced it was building what’s set to be the largest Dutch-constructed power superyacht. The partially finished project has made her way under tow for outfitting. The Amels 120 yacht is on pace for delivery in 2025.

Initially, Damen Yachting revealed her as Project Signature with Imperial Yachts. (Imperial Yachts is no longer attached to the contract, however. Instead, Deeside Marine represents the owners.) It also initially disclosed just the LOA of 120 meters, or 394 feet, along with design by Espen Øino. No exterior or interior sketches were released, however. Only a hint of her profile came, with Øino further hinting she has “a unique layout and a timeless external appearance blending edgy design with elegant curves.”

Damen Yachting calls Project Signature, a.k.a. Amels 477, an Amels 120 Full Custom since she’s an entirely tailored design. Other Full Custom projects include Here Comes the Sun, a 272-footer (83-meter), and Energy, an Amels 78 Full Custom, which saw delivery last year.

Construction on the Amels 120 yacht started in Romania, at a sister shipyard belonging to Damen, the parent company. She arrived at Amels’ headquarters in Vlissingen, The Netherlands, on June 12, after a launch celebration in Romania. Local schoolchildren attended as well. Among the tasks in the coming months: installation of a diesel-electric engine arrangement incorporating Azipod electric propulsion. Damen Yachting pledges sound and vibration levels will be the lowest for a yacht of her size, too.

Although the build and design teams continue keeping the rest of the information confidential, a few creature comforts are evident from the hull and superstructure. For instance, a significant recessed area on the aft main deck likely is a pool. Its edge overhangs what could be the entrance to the beach club, just off the deep integral swim platform. Additionally, alfresco spaces across the superyacht’s decks appear primarily shaded.
