The newest Oceanco yacht Seven Seas—the second by that name for her owner—is currently on her maiden voyage. Handover officially took place in time for high-season summer cruising.
Going by her hull number, Oceanco Y720, during construction, the yacht Seven Seas is 358 feet (109 meters) in length. Her predecessor, which saw delivery in 2010 and currently goes by the name Man of Steel under different ownership, measured 282 feet (86 meters).
Despite the large size difference, the two share more than just Oceanco as their builder. In fact, the owner tapped Molly Isaksen Interiors, a Beverly Hills-based studio, for interiors for each. (Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design further contributed to the new Seven Seas.) The studio reportedly specializes in timeless, peaceful, and comfortable living spaces. Since the owner prefers keeping a low profile, he never authorized the release of photos of his first Oceanco’s interiors for publicity. Thus far no interiors for the new Seven Seas are available, either. However, natural materials figure prominently onboard. Additionally, liberal use of glass particularly on the main, bridge, and upper decks should make that ambience light and bright. Of course, the glass, including wrap-around windows, invite the guests to take in the views, too.
With a 52-foot (16-meter) beam, the yacht Seven Seas should hit an impressive top speed of 20 knots under MTU power. Further on the technical side, Oceanco says she’s the first LY3-compliant superyacht to have a Marine Evacuation System (MES). More commonly found on cruise ships, an MES is an alternative to a davit-launched life raft. Briefly, it consists of a stowage box on deck, one or more life rafts, and a chute for passengers and crewmembers to safely slide into the rafts in the water. It allows for quick evacuation in case of an emergency.
Interestingly, Oceanco says the owner took interest in a number of the technical aspects of the yacht, not only the design details.
