Conceived with North American cruisers in mind, the first Sunseeker Ocean 182 yacht is heading from the UK for U.S. shores this fall. Likened to a floating penthouse, she’ll make her worldwide debut at the Newport International Boat Show in Rhode Island in September.
Announced last September alongside the Ocean 156, the model name reflects the importance of volume, in gross tonnage, versus length. (On a related note, it’s a common mistake to interpret gross tonnage as a measurement of weight.) Increasingly, yacht buyers are paying more attention to the volume that a particular project offers, since it impacts the feeling of spaciousness onboard. Traditionally, superyachts similar in size to the Sunseeker Ocean 182 yacht (and even the 156 yacht) have been less than 100 gross tons. For comparison, her LOA is 89 feet (27 meters).
Sunseeker describes the yacht as being similar to a floating penthouse for a few reasons. First, you can enjoy views from fully forward in the galley to fully aft on the main deck. It’s an open-plan layout with mostly full-height glass surrounding you and your guests. Additionally, Sunseeker’s in-house team designed a modest spiral staircase with equally low-profile, floating treads to connect the main deck to the upper deck. On that upper deck, meanwhile, the Ocean 182 yacht has retractable sliding doors, turning the lounge into an indoor-outdoor area. The aft area further has glass bulwarks (above), lending more of an expansive feel.
The Ocean 182 yacht’s amenities are sure to please you and your guests, too. Because Sunseeker relocated the helm to the upper deck, a first for the builder, the galley aboard this 89-footer gains room. Even if you plan to have crew, chances are you’ll still help yourself to snacks and perhaps even cook on occasion. Similarly, a bar adjacent to the upper helm caters to owner-operators or crew-run yachts. It makes happy hour out on deck more convenient, too.
Speaking of outside, the Sunseeker Ocean 182 yacht provides a welcoming bow seating and sunning area. It further has a deep swim platform that transforms into a beach club. Sunseeker’s X-TEND convertible lounges can deploy, facing the water.
Finally, you get a choice of three MAN engine packages, each pledging a 27-knot top end. You can also expect a range of 1,100 nautical miles between 10 and 12 knots.
Sunseeker’s U.S. sales and service representative, OneWater Yacht Group, will have the Ocean 182 as part of a larger Sunseeker display at the boat show. The show dates are September 14 to 17. It won’t be your only opportunity to step aboard, however. Sean Robertson, president of Sunseeker USA sales, says, “The Ocean 182 will embark on a tour of the East Coast, commencing at the Newport International Boat Show in Rhode Island this September.”
