Earlier this week, the still-clandestine Feadship yacht Project 824 caught some people by surprise as she made her way through the canals of The Netherlands. If you look closely at one of the images below, you’ll see her hull was moving stern-first, and therefore backwards. Why would the tugs assisting her do such a thing? After all, she headed through the canals a few days later as a fully joined structure, she traveled the normal way.

Well, it turns out, backwards sometimes is normal.

Although Feadship is still keeping the majority of facts about her under wraps, it has revealed that her beam exceeds 44 feet (13.6 meters). That, the yard explains, means she’s too wide for the tug pilots to see over the hull. So, to resolve the visibility issue, the tugs spun her hull around after it slipped out of Feadship’s hull subcontractor’s shed. By transporting her with her bow facing them, they had better sightlines around the “skinniest” part of the yacht Project 824. Additionally, if the widest part, a.k.a. the stern, fits through the canals, the pilots automatically know that the rest of this long, lean superyacht will, too.

As for other facts, the yacht Project 824 had her hull and superstructure united prior to her final arrival at the Royal Van Lent shipyard. Her LOA should be about 328 feet (100 meters), too. Judging from her stage of construction, the yacht Project 824 likely will be at the shipyard through 2025.

Regardless, her transfer from her subcontractor to Feadship’s yard comes less than a month after yet another anticipated Feadship appeared. Project 822 finally became visible the last few days of August, also at the Royal Van Lent facility. Her LOA: 248 feet (75.7 meters). She features styling by RWD.
