The build and design teams behind the Bolide 80 yacht set out to create what they call a Hyper Muscle Yacht, the fastest and lightest open yacht in the world. Though it’s not an official world record, she reportedly topped out at 73 knots during sea trials. The intention was to max out at 70 knots. Regardless, it seems fitting, since her name translates to “fireball” from Italian.
All-carbon-fiber construction is one factor behind the Bolide 80 yacht performance. Yet another is a propulsion package of triple MAN engines. Upward-angled rudders (a.k.a. dihedral rudders) working in conjunction with other systems help keep her maneuverable without becoming squirrely at high speeds, too.
Open yachts typically prioritize fast speeds, yet sacrifice range. Interestingly, the Bolide 80 yacht delivers the wind-in-your-hair experience as well as decent distances, even at high speeds. For example, the builder says that at her 50-knot cruising speed, you should be able to cover 500 nautical miles. Even at the 70-knot speed, the yacht doesn’t suffer much. In fact, Bolide Says she still is capable of a 400-nautical-mile range. Finally, at 45 knots, the pace which Bolide Yachts considers ideal for transfers, you’ll see a 600-nautical-mile range. This means you can make nearly six full roundtrips from Miami to Bimini before needing to refuel.
As much as some buyer still crave this much speed, having something comfortable to relax and entertain upon is equally important. The sporty superyacht has large sunpads fore and aft, conversation-oriented cockpit (complete with speakers), and a surprisingly spacious saloon.
Bolide Yachts intends to build a total of 10 units in the Bolide 80 yacht series. Hull number one (seen here) and hull number two (under construction) are each for sale through the central agency of Ocean Independence.
