The eyes of onlookers in Viareggio, Italy were not deceiving them this morning. When the yacht Vero slipped out of her build shed, her styling took everyone back in time several decades. However, beneath the surface, this Codecasa custom yacht is as modern as today’s clients expect.
An Asian owner commissioned this all-aluminum 79-footer (24-meter) from the shipyard and designer Luca Dini. She’s the same project as the Codecasa Gentleman’s Yacht, which the shipyard revealed three years ago. The round windows are just the beginning of the throwback looks. Varnished mahogany detailing is prevalent, too. Dini says the inspiration behind the lines “was to transform a piece of nautical history into something exclusive,” specifically using 1950s design cues.
The exclusivity extends to the performance of the yacht, too. Francesco Rogantin, owner of the NAMES naval-architecture studio, created the hull design with the shipyard for good speed. In fact, sea trials should confirm that the yacht Vero can top out at 25 knots. Additionally, she’ll enjoy good range, upwards of 2,000 nautical miles at 9 knots. Rogantin simultaneously addressed the challenge of incorporating a tender and launching crane while keeping her decks clean-looking. The solution is a hidden davit that deploys only when the tender needs to go in the water or come back onboard the aft deck. This way, the aft deck can cater to open-air relaxation and entertainment much of the time.
While the LOA of the yacht Vero easily accommodates an owner’s party of eight, the owner wanted some unusual features, too. Firstly, the master suite sits on the main deck. Rarely do you see an owners’ stateroom above vs. below deck in this size. Secondly, the yacht has a beach club—an entirely enclosed beach club, at that. It provides yet another place for the owner and all guests to spend time with one another, besides the traditional main saloon.
With a crew of four eventually handling operations, Vero will remain at Codecasa until delivery next spring. Carmen Lau of Camper & Nicholsons Asia, who sold the yacht to the owner, says anticipation is high for delivery day. “The client fell in love with this project from the very start. We eagerly await the arrival of this exceptional gem in Asia, confident that she will captivate the attention of anyone who sees her.”
