Lençóis Maranhenses National Park on Brazil’s north Atlantic Coast is magical in the minds of many. It is the largest field of sand dunes in South America, 383,000 acres (155,000 hectares) of them. The way the sand meets the water here creates “an exceptional natural landscape, crafted by the wind’s relentless artistry,” according to The Touch Studio. This very interaction is the studio’s inspiration for the Dunes yacht concept, joining an assortment of Oceanco Simply Custom superyacht proposals.
Oceanco Simply Custom provides a set technical foundation to save clients design—and therefore construction—time. Specifically, the platform ensures strong seakeeping, minimizes roll, keeps sound and vibration at low levels, and reduces emissions. It further adapts to sizes from 262 to 295 feet (80 to 90 meters) and can support volumes upwards of 2,500 gross tons.
For its Simply Custom contribution, Amsterdam-based The Touch Studio did what it does best. It strives, in its own words, to “generate emotions by realizing environments that touch your heart and leave their mark.” By incorporating highly personal details that go beyond beauty in looks, it creates yachts and other projects “leading to ‘touch’ points in life.” The Dunes yacht concept goes to great lengths to ensure clients get those touch points. Just like the wind and water carves the sand dunes, the superyacht has surfaces mimicking wind-etched shapes. Each full deck appears sculpted, too.
Yet additional noteworthy design features come aft. Here, the designers wanted the stern surfaces to seem as if they’re floating. Furthermore, the designers created an open beach area, where guests and crew can move around without obstructions. The beach area additionally becomes completely open thanks to folding terraces and therefore better connects to the sea. The Touch Studio wanted to enhance the sense of freedom with the combination of openness and flexibility.
Finally, the Dunes yacht concept has entirely tailored furnishings. Of course, with any custom or even semi-custom superyacht project, studios work closely with clients to obtain or create what they want. However, The Touch Studio wants the Dunes to have an all-around cohesive expression of the wind, sand, and water. From every piece of deck furniture to every material used, the warm tone of sand, the turquoise tone of the water, and the sculpting effect of the wind are all present.
