Co-Own the Yacht Project Ocean for Years of Adventures

From Spain to Svalbard and from the Galapagos Islands to Alaska, an ambitious itinerary awaits those who co-own the yacht Project Ocean. Arksen, the community-focused adventure-travel company that conceived her, is offering up to 50 percent shares for the 89-footer (27-meter).

Launching this summer, Project Ocean is the second Arksen yacht. The first, Project Pelagos (both photos below), is already in her owners’ hands. Both are the realization of Arksen founder Jasper Smith’s dream. He created the company as a way to spend time with his children pursuing ocean explorations. Smith and the Arksen team are quick to point out that the company isn’t a yacht builder. Rather, yachts fulfill its goal of encouraging more and farther-flung journeys of discovery. Simultaneously, they allow giving back to the scientific community. Arksen is a founding partner of the 10% For The Ocean Fund, which is working to increase ocean-conservation funding to 10 percent. According to Arksen, just one percent of all global charitable donations go toward ocean conservation.

If you choose to co-own the yacht Project Ocean, several aspects of her design and build stand out. Firstly, like Project Pelagos, she employs 40 percent recycled aluminum. Secondly, engineering emphasizes long range while leaving as small a footprint as possible. Hybrid propulsion, for instance, allows running solely on batteries and therefore no emossions while at anchor. Solar panels further feed the battery bank. Additionally, a station-keeping system much like Dynamic Positioning means “anchoring” without an anchor—vital in sensitive environmental areas.

The co-ownership program has a few advantages setting itself apart from similar programs, too. For example, you can trade in or out at any time. You can also choose between two and 10 weeks onboard each year, all-inclusive of major costs. Of course, a permanent crew is onboard as well.

Arksen has already mapped out extraordinary journeys to take you and other co-owners through the next few years. Northern Europe is where the megayacht will spend this first summer. Adventurous destinations include Iceland, Svalbard, and Norway. Next up are Spain and the Canary Islands, before the megayacht heads across the Atlantic on her own bottom. And yes, you can be onboard for that. Once stateside, Project Ocean will cruise the Eastern Seaboard, plus visit Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Bermuda. That takes care of the summer season in the United States.

Come winter, meanwhile, naturally the warm waters of the Caribbean and Central America are on the itinerary. So is the intriguing natural beauty of the Galapagos Islands. Since there’s still so much more to North America, Project Ocean is venturing all along the Pacific Coast afterwards. Starting in Mexico, she’ll take you to California, throughout the Pacific Northwest, and finally to wild Alaska.
