In the small Dutch village of Tolkamer, a super-size cruiser is about a year into construction. The Leapher yacht Horizon is additionally about 15 months from completion, and for sale, if a polar-classed megayacht is of interest.
Leapher as a yacht builder is relatively new to the industry, though its founders and production team are not. Many worked for fellow Dutch yacht builders like Feadship, Heesen, and Oceanco, for instance. Additionally, the shipyard itself was the site of a longstanding cruise-ship and commercial-ship builder until it ceased operations during the pandemic. About an hour and a half from the Amsterdam airport, Leapher is close to the border with Germany.
Recently, Alex Clarke of Denison Yachting visited The Netherlands to see the yacht Horizon. Holding the central listing for sale, with fellow Denison broker Kit Denison, Clarke says Leapher has “a dynamic, forward-thinking team.” The craftspeople have already welded the hull and superstructure together and are further in the process of installing piping and machinery. Horizon’s LOA: 198’5” (60.5 meters). Naval architecture is by O7 Designers and Van Oossanen Naval Architects, allowing for an expected 12-knot top speed and 40 days of autonomy. Range, meanwhile, should be an impressive 14,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. Notably, the entire lower deck is for operations.
Equally impressive, the Leapher yacht Horizon boasts a volume upwards of 1,700 gross tons. Cor D. Rover has been working with the current owner to design spaces for a party of 14. They include a pool, a sauna, and a gym, of course, as well as a massive beach club. It’s 2,153 square feet (200 square meters). Furthermore, a diving room is in the plans, as is an ample garage for big tenders and watertoys.
On schedule for completion in September 2025, Horizon “represents the only new polar-classed expedition yacht currently under construction and available for sale with a delivery in the next two years,” Clarke also notes.
The asking price is €80 million (about $85.7 million at press time).
