What better way for a shipyard to start a month than with a yacht launch. The first wallywind 110 yacht lowered into the water on June 1, two years after her announcement.
Wally revealed plans for the performance-cruiser superyacht series in 2022, with this first contract signed in 2023. As this first hull slipped into the sea, the special paint job revealed why it’s so special. Specifically, although it’s a metallic blue, it changes tone according to the light conditions. It further calls more attention to the sleek, performance-oriented hull by judel/vrolijk & co.
“The wallywind110 is not just a superyacht that promises impressive performance,” stresses Luca Basai, Wally’s founder and chief designer. “Wally has always been synonymous with both performance and design.” For example, the flush-deck design calls to mind the spirit and performance of racing. Basani especially calls attention to the 861-square-foot (80-square-meter) cockpit, uncluttered by gear. Instead, all sail handling is at the stern. “The owner and their guests can relax on sofas, sunbeds, and seating,” he continues. “Not to mention the other two lounge areas located on the ‘sea terrace’ at the stern and on the foredeck.” A total of eight in the owner’s party can stay onboard, too.
Stefano de Vivo, Wally’s managing director, agrees with Basani’s assertion that the brand is a performer first and foremost. Furthermore, he notes how the launch is during a particularly important year, the brand’s 30th anniversary. “It also once again confirms how relevant the sailing-superyacht sector is for Wally,” he says.
With sea trials pending for this project, Wally has hull number two under construction, too. Additionally, more models are in the works, including the wallywind 130 and wallywind 150.
