A large shoal off the coast of England in the North Sea bears the name Dogger Bank. It inspired Dick Boon, the founder of Vripack, to create the Doggersbank platform: rugged and eminently capable steel-hulled globetrotters. Fifty-six years later, the Doggersbank designs are just as appealing, with the new 90 Offshore and 105 Offshore yachts ready to take modern explorers near and far.

Certainly, the brawny looks and engineering will appeal to yacht owner who yearn to embark on adventurous itineraries. Simultaneously, they’ll appeal to more traditional cruisers who happen to prefer saltier styling paired with reliability. “We saw a need to launch larger models that can better accommodate modern-day technologies and give more usable space to guests and crew,” explains Joost Mertens, Doggersbank’s sales director. (Vripack still designs Doggersbank, but has launched it as its own brand.)

With the Doggersbank 90 Offshore, for instance, three staterooms accommodate six passengers, including owners. Two crew cabins tuck in the bow. The 105 Offshore, meanwhile, has four guest staterooms, a full-beam master suite, and three cabins for the captain and crew. Existing Doggersbank owners provided the feedback that led to things like the 105’s passenger head count, in fact. Whichever model someone chooses, both Doggersbanks can include hybrid propulsion and batter banks for silent operations.

Additionally, both the Doggersbank 90 Offshore and 105 Offshore feature aesthetic changes compared to smaller sisterships. For instance, both have bigger windows in the master suite, the crew cabins, and the wheelhouse. Reflecting the knack for adventure, the inclined bow has more flair, and more angular lines appear top to bottom. On the practical side, meanwhile, there’s more alfresco deck space, knowing owners and guests, especially younger ones, enjoy spending time outside. This extends to a hot tub on the upper deck. A hefty crane and tender stowage are still present, of course, catering to shore excursions.

John Clayman, president of Expedition Yacht Experts and the U.S. representative for Doggersbank, says “it is the highlight of my career to represent the iconic Doggersbank brand.” Vripack’s experience designing true explorer yachts makes a big impression on knowledgeable buyers, he notes. “Like all Doggersbanks, these larger models are able to comfortably and safely cruise to the most exotic destinations while providing space for luxurious accommodations,” he adds.

“With the Doggersbank 90 and 105 Offshore, we’re giving Doggersbank a sporty facelift while doing justice to the proven platform’s characteristics,” Mertens asserts.
