An Italian company comprised of further Italian nationals are new shareholders of Cantiere delle Marche. The story as to how the shipyard, known for constructing globetrotting explorer yachts, entered into the deal is unusual.
“Actually, we were not looking for partners,” confesses Tom Schröder, the majority shareholder through his company Fil Bros. “But when two entities of this caliber expressed interest in becoming part of Cantiere delle Marche, we had no choice but to seriously consider their proposal.” Following a few conversations, Schröder adds, the yard team came to a realization. “This new partnership would become a more than solid pillar to support the growth and development of our shipyard into the luxury market for the many years to come,” he says. Notably, Schröder knows a thing or two about chance opportunities. He became the majority shareholder in October 2022, while building the yacht Maverick. The close relationship he developed with the shipyard’s founders spurred him to acquire a 75-percent stake. Ennio Cecchini and Vasco Buonpensiere, the yard’s co-founders, retained the remaining 25 percent. The co-founders are further the yard’s president and CEO, respectively.
The new shareholders of Cantiere delle Marche have a 30-percent stake, created from undisclosed amounts from the above-mentioned shareholders. The new Italian stakeholders are a family of Italian entrepreneurs with global business interests and the company Holding Carisma. The latter focuses on high-potential small- and medium-sized Italian firms. They’re specifically in industries ranging from food and fashion to leisure and health. “Carisma aims to contribute to the growth of Italian excellence in the luxury sector, and Cantiere delle Marche is one of these outstanding examples,” says Giovanni Cagnoli, Carisma’s president. “We believe that there are further growth opportunities and potential for the affirmation of this brand.”
In a joint statement, Cecchini and Buonpensiere express confidence that the shareholders of Cantiere delle Marche will “enhance our stability, our propulsive strength towards the future, and provide valuable expertise in the luxury sector.” They express pride, too, “as it reflects their trust an appreciation for Cantiere delle Marche’s history and its ability to constantly adapt successfully to an everchanging luxury market’s environement.”
