A few cruising grounds are not just iconic in the minds of yacht owners, but also the general public. Sydney Harbor in Australia is one of them. From the renowned opera house to the bridge named for the waterway, it’s scenic, to say the least. So, too, was the yacht White Rabbit, the world’s largest trimaran, when she made her way there last month.
Measuring 276 feet (84 meters), the custom yacht, which saw delivery from Australia’s Echo Yachts in 2018, tops a few more lists. Firstly, she’s the world’s largest all-aluminum megayacht. Secondly, she’s the world’s largest multi-hull megayacht—not just the biggest trimaran. Finally, White Rabbit is the biggest private yacht from an Australian shipyard to date.
Her LOA isn’t the only thing big about her, either. Due to the triple hulls, she has a more-than-ample 66-foot (20-meter) beam. Overall volume, meanwhile, is 2,940 gross tons. Guests certainly appreciate the benefits, from the alfresco sunning areas to the interior accommodations. Big, open-plan lounges and dining areas allow the full 22-person passenger count to spend time together. Several of the lounges and dining areas—along with bars—spread across the main deck, purposely for big parties. Notably, the staterooms, including two master suites, spread across the main and upper decks.
Further fun amenities include a cozy cinema for eight people and a hot tub on the sundeck, fully forward. It’s the perfect position from which to enjoy approaching shorelines when the yacht White Rabbit is underway. She’s capable of covering significant distances, too. In fact, at 12 knots, she has a range of 5,500 nautical miles. Top speed, meanwhile, is about 19 knots.
The owner, who has a fleet of similarly christened megayachts—this one started as the project White Rabbit Golf—chose diesel-electric propulsion to complement the more efficient trimaran hull. In fact, Echo Yachts says that the hull itself permits 40 percent better fuel burn single-hulled yachts with the same volume. Yet another benefit of the hull: stability in sloppy seas.
Calm seas, of course, are the preference of guests, especially given the watertoys choices. The yacht White Rabbit carries a virtual flotilla. It includes kayaks, PWCs, and two nearly 25-foot (7.5-meter) tenders, along with extensive dive equipment.
