The new year brings new opportunities, including new opportunities for yacht owners and guests to enjoy cruising. Several significant-sized megayachts are currently in the final stages of construction, soon to celebrate their christening and then delivery. Rather than focus only on the biggest of the big, however, we’re spotlighting superyacht deliveries coming in 2025 that vary for being noteworthy. A few are remarkable firsts for their builders and designers, for instance. Others, meanwhile, are the latest boundary-pushing commissions from repeat customers.
Amels Yacht Project Tanzanite
Originally going by the code name Project Signature, the Amels yacht Project Tanzanite is a long-awaited, mostly confidential contract. She’s a fully custom superyacht with an LOA of 394 feet (120 meters) and design by Espen Øino. That length makes her the biggest private boat in build in The Netherlands. Few hints have come about her features, though. Øino has simply stated, “Our team has worked tirelessly to create a yacht with a unique layout and a timeless external appearance blending edgy design with elegant curves.” Interior renderings from Zuretti Design, though, do reveal a serenely elegant ambience, with primarily neutral, nature-inspired tones. By the way, Amels has yet another significant delivery coming up this year: number one of the Amels 80 series.
Burger 180 Yacht
Actually, this is the first of two 180s in build at Burger Boat Company. The storied American shipyard is keeping her name confidential, at her owner’s request. But, the owner has allowed some of the features to be publicized. For example, she’s handicapped-accessible on four decks. Also, sliding walls convert her four guest staterooms into two extra-capacious suites. Speaking of extra-capacious, the chief officer, chief engineer, chief stewardess, and chef each have private cabins. That’s unheard of—but welcome—aboard a 180-footer (55-meter). Far larger superyacht deliveries this year don’t necessarily allocate space this way, either.
Feadship Yacht Breakthrough
Several yachting-industry representatives are eager to see this delivery. The yacht Breakthrough is better known as the Feadship yacht Project 821, with forward-thinking propulsion. Specifically, it combines hydrogen fuel cells and MTUs capable of running on HVO, which burns cleaner than diesel. Additionally, the fuel cells can run on methanol instead of hydrogen. Either way, Feadship says the yacht Breakthrough can cruise at 10 knots emission-free or enjoy silence at anchor, each up to one week, with the fuel cells. Also, while several superyacht deliveries coming in 2025 are from The Netherlands, this 390-footer (119-meter) is the largest.
Lürssen Yacht Shackleton/Project Icecap
The yacht Shackleton, a.k.a. Project Icecap, has kept a super-low profile since sea trials in 2022. 351 feet (107 meters). Construction and outfitting have been at Penne-Werft, a naval facility belonging to Lürssen. Fittingly for that setting, the yacht has an inverted bow, for taking on tough seas. A total of 20 in the owner’s party can stay aboard this explorer, one of the biggest such builds seeing delivery this year. Her volume is significant, too, upwards of 6,500 gross tons. (On a related note, some media report that REV Ocean will be the world’s largest explorer yacht when handed over this year. However, that vessel is not a yacht. It’s a research ship for raising awareness of global impacts on the marine environment. Some yacht-like amenities are amid laboratories and other science-focused rooms.)
Oceanco Y722
Bearing a meaningful mission, the still-somewhat-confidential Oceanco Y722 yacht transferred from one construction shed to another in 2023 (top and above). As for that mission, scientific research and discoveries are at its heart. Learning especially is influential in her interior design, with room arrangements focused on group education. Equally interesting, according to Oceanco, “radical” layout differences compared to traditional luxury yachts put a priority on community. One such example is a combined dining room and crew mess, for use by those among the 22 guests and 33 crewmembers. The crew additionally have their own gyms and wellness areas. LOA: 364 feet (111 meters).
Royal Huisman Yacht Aquarius II
The performance ketch Aquarius II set out for Royal Huisman’s Amsterdam facilities in October 2024 for final fit-out. She’s a 212-footer (65-meter) for a repeat customer of the shipyard. The yard, along with Dykstra Naval Architects and Mark Whiteley Design, created the 184-foot (56.18-meter) cruising ketch Aquarius for this owner in 2018. Why reunite with all of the same specialists? “I want to keep winning Bucket races!” the owner says. Of course, the owner also wants comfortable, social spaces for post-race enjoyment. Expect staterooms and lounges to be classic in their looks. Sea trials for Aquarius II were underway a few weeks ago. This might be a sign of delivery coming prior to the St. Barths Bucket in March.
Vitters Yacht Project Zero
The yacht Project Zero is especially newsworthy among superyacht deliveries this year. She’s highly ambitious, too, because she doesn’t have combustion engines. Instead, this 226-foot (68.9-meter) performance ketch is relying entirely on solar and wind energy for electricity production. This therefore explains “Zero” in “Project Zero,” since she won’t produce carbon emissions. Foundation⁰ (Foundation Zero), a foundation with climate-impact investors among its supporters, is responsible for the technology allowing all energy being used aboard to be made aboard. While few details are available about her creature comforts, she does have an aft master suite.
