Chilly winter temperatures don’t keep warm-weather yachts from tasks at hand. Poland-based Sunreef Yachts has completed a major milestone. The composite Sunreef 43M Eco yacht hull, a full 50 feet (15.4 meters) in the beam, released from its mold. The scale provides a better understanding of how this superyacht intends to significantly influence cleaner cruising, too.
First announced in 2022, the 141-foot (43-meter) 43M Eco is the largest sailing yacht in Sunreef Yachts’ solar-cell-equipped Eco line. The shipyard has been doing extensive research into and development of electric propulsion and photovoltaic (solar) panels. As a result, the series employs 200-kW electric engines and battery banks to assist with repositioning and maneuvering. Solid-state batteries with a 1-MWh capacity will be aboard instead of lithium-ion batteries because they can store more in the same physical footprint. Additionally, Sunreef is installing its own hydro-generation system, producing power for various needs while she’s under sail.

As for the solar panels, the Sunreef 43M Eco yacht hull actually incorporates these cells in her structure. Specifically, about 1,292 square feet (120 square meters) are embedded in the hull and superstructure. Altogether, the sailing yacht will have 2,691 square feet (250 square meters) of solar panels.
Also noteworthy, the Sunreef 43M Eco yacht hull hold the record for being the largest single-shot hull infusion in yachting. The infusion completed last fall, a surface measuring almost 18,300 square feet (1,700 square meters). Infusion techniques are long proven to reduce harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). They result in lighter, stronger structures, too, since resin distributes evenly throughout the fiberglass layers in the hull mold.

Sunreef Yachts is using modular construction for the 43M Eco, a process more commonly seen in commercial vessel construction. It allows multiple parts to be built simultaneously, shortening timetables. That should appeal to a buyer, since this project is on spec and time remains to personalize the layout. The Sunreef 43M Eco yacht hull—hulls, really—accommodates five of the six staterooms. The master suite naturally benefits from the full beam on the main deck. Nearly as beamy, the flying bridge caters to alfresco dining and sunning. Active families, meanwhile, will enjoy the beach club—what Sunreef calls the Ocean Lounge. Outfit it as a big gym, for example, or as a waterside oasis, or both. Three opening platforms enhance the sense of spaciousness, plus connect to allow uninterrupted walk-around access.
