RIBs with inboard diesels and waterjets are the exclusive focus oof Castoldi’s tenders division. From SOLAS rescue boats to super-fun, super-big watertoys, it has a variety of models. Recently, it redesigned a model whose success dates back about two decades. The Castoldi Jet Tender 17 is more modern in style and more versatile in performance. Simultaneously, it’s roomier than you might think for the LOA.
As for the LOA, it’s 17’7” (5.38 meters), with a seven-foot (2.26-meter) beam. A total of nine passengers can be aboard, too, whether a combo of guests and crew or entirely all crew. In fact, the predecessor to the new Castoldi Jet Tender 17 saw some yacht owners acquire it as a dedicated crew tender. Others, meanwhile, saw a good fit as guest transport. Regardless, Castoldi tweaked the allotted interior space to ensure that the passengers feel more comfortable seated side by side on the facing settees.
Of course, tenders whose owners intend to use them for “just” guests still need to serve multiple functions these days. Therefore, the Castoldi Jet Tender 17 has some new features that should turn heads. For instance, a bow ramp makes it easy to drop guests directly onto the beach, and for them to reboard after a fun day ashore. (The hand-laid Kevlar and composite hull can hold up to these landings without issue.) The same bow ramp can double as swim steps, too, for enjoyment away from shore. Aft, meanwhile, the stern flips down to become a boarding platform, making it simpler for guests to depart from your primary yacht’s swim platform or tender area.
Whether quick trips to shore or joy rides around an anchorage are on your mind, this RIB should meet your requirements. According to Castolid, the nearly 170-hp diesel inboard, with Castoldi’s own waterjet, permits a top speed of 34 knots under light load. Fully loaded, meanwhile, the tender still hits a spirited 32½ knots. If guests want protection from sun or spray, both removable and folding bow and stern awnings are available.
