Chartering a yacht isn’t simply a way to enjoy a relaxing vacation. It actually also inspires some cruisers to buy their own yacht. The couple who recently christened the yacht Lulus can attest to this.
In December 2023, the owners signed a contract for this new megayacht, a 146-foot (44-meter) Mangusta Oceano 44. Prior to that, though, they had spent years chartering, which allowed them to make mental notes about what suited the way they liked to unwind. Those years represented “a remarkable journey,” according to Daniela Duck, the managing director of Camper & Nicholsons Italy and the group head of Camper & Nicholsons’ New Build Division. It was a remarkable journey for Camper & Nicholsons, too, since the owners initially were charter customers, Duck notes. Having that relationship beginning “well before the acquisition of this exceptional yacht,” she continues, led to a strong understanding of preferences. It led the owners to enlist the new-build team when they felt the time was right to build their first superyacht, too.
The yacht Lulus is the seventh hull in the Mangusta Oceano 44 series. Inaugurated in 2021, it takes the alfresco lifestyle to a new level. The skylounge becomes a true indoor-outdoor area, for instance, with three sides of full-height opening glass. In total, the owners of Lulus and their guests get 1,055 square feet (98 square meters) of space on this deck for good conversations and horizon gazing. Glass bulkheads on every deck, meanwhile, lend the feeling of having even more space than the 28’6” (8.7-meter) beam provides.

The designer Alberto Mancini is responsible for the look and feel of the Mangusta Oceano 44 exterior. While clients have the freedom to choose a separate interior designer, the owners of Lulus decided to work with him. A party of 10 can stay aboard, in an arrangement that ticks the boxes for a lot of buyers and charterers. The master suite is forward on the main deck—benefitting further from a skylight—and all guest cabins are below decks. Although neither Mangusta nor Camper & Nicholsons have disclosed décor details, Duck considers the superyacht “distinctive.”
Delivery should take place later in the summertime. Following the owners’ own inaugural voyage, the yacht Lulus will be available for charter, via the central listing of Camper & Nicholsons.
