Heesen Yacht Sparta Launches for Family of Cruisers

At 220 feet (67 meters) long and with an exterior color scheme quite unlike most other megayachts, the yacht Sparta, formerly Project Sparta at contract, celebrated launch day on June 9.

The largest steel-hulled Heesen to date, the contract sprang from a concept design. In fact, the shipyard and Winch Design revealed that concept at the Monaco Yacht Show five years ago, as Project Avanti. The buyers liked the strong, sporty profile, along with a number of the suggested amenities.

For instance, originally, Winch Design proposed four guest staterooms on the main deck and two owners’ suites on an upper deck. Additionally, it proposed that the two forward guest staterooms have a sliding wall, transforming them into one full-beam VIP. All of this is present amid the yacht Sparta’s highlights. Notably, the large suite alternately can be a playroom for the younger members of the owners’ family.

Furthermore, Winch Design proposed a 16-foot-long (5-meter-long) infinity pool on the main aft deck. While the pool is still there, slight changes evolved along the way. It’s now 21 feet (6.5 meters) long. Interestingly, this is essentially the only change the owners requested among all the creature comforts.

With Winch Design, the owners crafted a yacht that reflects their love of family and desire to spend time together with them. The generations can flow easily back and forth between the main saloon and open-air beach club, for example. Formal meals will take place in the dining area just forward of the saloon’s generous, relaxed seating area. On a related note, a striking earth theme characterizes these rooms. Palm leaves are the upholstery for the dining chairs, and a leaf-shaped, marble-topped coffee table (forest-green marble, no less) sits in the saloon. The base of the coffee table comes from the trunk of an oak, too, with a rich stain.

Creative décor schemes characterize other decks aboard the yacht Sparta, too. The lower deck theme is water, while the upper deck—with two separate master suites—embraces an air theme. The masters themselves have sub-themes, with the forward suite incorporating space concepts and the aft one incorporating sky concepts. Picture constellation artwork in the forward suite and sky-blue fabrics and mother-of-pearl inlays in the aft suite.

Further stand-out spaces include an oak staircase, with staggered panels, connecting the interior decks, and a Japanese-inspired wellness area below decks. The spa has a beauty area, a gym, a steam room, a sauna, and an elliptical hot tub.

Sea trials are starting soon. Fellow cruisers won’t be able to miss her. The primarily white paint job has metallic Venetian red and metallic anthracite gray accents, along with a reverse bow. Fun fact: She has a matching limo tender, too.
