If you’re a fan of the TV show Saturday Night Live (SNL) but didn’t see it this weekend, you missed a a megayacht. Specifically, you missed a pretty famous megayacht in a skit. Not only that, but “I’m on a Boat” from SNL is one of the funniest Digital Shorts to date.
As you may know, SNL has been including mini-movies the past few years, thus the “digital shorts” moniker. This particular short is a riotously funny send-up of hip-hop music videos, which typically involve large luxury yachts.
Thankfully, the magic of embedded video makes it possible to see “I’m on a Boat” from SNL here, anytime you wish. The stars are hip-hop artist T-Pain, SNL cast member Andy Samberg, and SNL writer Akiva Schaffer. Schaffer, by the way, also directs, co-writes, and edits the majority of SNL Digital Shorts.
As for the megayacht, she’s unmistakably a Jon Bannenberg design from the Oceanfast shipyard in Australia. Specifically, filming took place aboard the iconic Never Say Never, a 122-footer (37-meter). On an interesting side note, this yacht essentially put Oceanfast in the international spotlight.
So grab a seat, and grab the popcorn. As Samberg says at one point, “Get your towels ready, it’s about to go down.”
One quick word of warning, however. The language, yet another send-up of hip-hop videos, isn’t suitable for children. Consider having them exit the room before you hit the play button.
